TÜRKAK has taken a significant step in combating climate change by granting its first accreditation under the ISO 14064-2:2019 standard, an international standard used for the verification of projects aimed at reducing and removing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Originally published in 2006 and revised in 2019 to broaden its scope, ISO 14064-2 defines international principles and requirements for the planning, monitoring, reporting, and verification of GHG projects. Through this standard, the environmental impacts of such projects can be measured using scientific and comparable methodologies. By ensuring the scientific, reliable, and internationally recognized verification of carbon reduction and removal projects, TÜRKAK plays a strategic role in Türkiye’s climate change mitigation efforts and integration into carbon markets.
International Verification Assurance
With this development, carbon reduction and sink projects carried out in Türkiye—such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, and afforestation initiatives—will now be verifiable through internationally accepted methodologies and can be reported with greater reliability.
The ISO 14064-2 accreditation contributes to:
Transparent, consistent, and comparable project verification,
Establishing a robust and trustworthy infrastructure for carbon markets,
Enhancing investor confidence and facilitating access to international funds.
Contribution to Low-Carbon Development Goals
TÜRKAK’s accreditation activities in this field play a critical role in supporting Türkiye’s low-carbon development goals, while also enabling organizations to take a more active role at the global level.
This first accreditation granted by TÜRKAK marks the beginning of a new era in Türkiye’s climate policy and carbon market landscape.
