The Most Comprehensive Audit in TÜRKAK’s History Successfully and Safely Completed

Since the privatization of vehicle inspections and the introduction of mandatory accreditation for vehicle inspections in Turkey in 2008, TÜVTÜRK vehicle inspection stations have operated under accreditation.

For TÜVTÜRK's fourth accreditation renewal application, TÜRKAK planned a more extensive renewal audit. This marks the most comprehensive and large-scale audit in TÜRKAK’s history, focusing on the accreditation of vehicle inspection stations, considered the largest accreditation project in Europe.

The audit covered 163 out of 214 stations nationwide, accounting for 76% of the total stations, and engaged with 77% of TÜVTÜRK's 4,500 employees. The process began on May 2, 2024, with the TÜVTÜRK headquarters audit and concluded on August 7, 2024. The audit was conducted by a TÜRKAK team of 33 professionals, all with expertise in the automotive sector and vehicle inspections, organized into 25 groups.

Audits were conducted in 67 provinces across Turkey, including 30 stations in the 10 provinces affected by earthquakes. Furthermore, 38 of TÜVTÜRK’s 43 business partners—approximately 90%—were audited.

The TÜRKAK audit team and TÜVTÜRK representatives covered over 15,000 kilometers by land (excluding air travel) to carry out the inspections, completing the process successfully and safely.

A report by the International Motor Vehicle Inspection Committee (CITA) highlights a significant structural improvement in road safety since the implementation of Turkey’s periodic technical inspection (PTI) program in 2008. The report estimates that 5,033 traffic-related fatalities and 219,498 injuries may have been prevented annually due to the accredited vehicle inspection program, underscoring its critical role in enhancing road safety in Turkey.
