The 56th General Assembly of the European co-operation for Accreditation (EA) was held on November 20-21 in Lisbon, Portugal, with the participation of representatives from national accreditation bodies of EA member countries and other stakeholders. TÜRKAK was represented at the meeting by Secretary General Banu Müderrisoğlu and Deputy Secretary General Serhat Gök.
During the meeting, the EA unity symbol was handed over to TÜRKAK, which will host the next General Assembly. Müderrisoğlu expressed her excitement about bringing the EA spirit from Lisbon's 25 de Abril Bridge to Istanbul's 15 July Martyrs Bridge. She shared her enthusiasm about hosting all EA members at the crossroads of the world, offering magnificent views, delicious food, and warm hospitality.
In the closed C-level meeting of EA accreditation bodies' top management, the highly relevant topic of artificial intelligence (AI) was discussed. The discussion focused on accelerating the harmonized use of AI both as a tool in the accreditation process and for the evaluation of AI systems.
At the General Assembly, in line with the principles of transparency and openness, a vote was held at TÜRKAK's request, and it was decided that numerical or proportional results of EA internal elections—which had not been disclosed until now—would be announced for all future elections.
Additionally, several topics were discussed and resolved during the General Assembly. These included initiating work on AI applications for accreditation bodies, the harmonization of standards, the current status of the single umbrella organization (GLOBAC), the 2025 work plan, and membership fees.
